Jannasch Group

We focus our research on polymers for energy and sustainability. The activities span across macromolecular design, synthesis and characterization, polymer self-assembly, and material structure and properties.

We are especially motivated by the global challenges concerning energy and sustainability that drive the research for new multifunctional and high-performing polymer materials. This requires new synthetic strategies and fundamental studies of synthetic pathways, material structure and properties.

Our main research area comprises new generations of ionic polymers for proton- and anion-exchange membranes for energy conversion and storage systems such as fuel cells, water electrolyzers and flow batteries. In a second research area, we explore new bio-based monomers, polymers and plastics synthesized using building blocks from renewable resources (mostly lignocellulose), as well as their degradation and recycling.
