Ellervik Group

The philosophy of the Ellervik group is focused on using carbohydrates in a smart way to reach biological goals.

The role of carbohydrates in biological systems is complex and carbohydrates are known to be vital in highly sophisticated signaling and transportation systems. Our approach is to intervene the biosynthesis and transportation of natural compounds with the long-term goal to design pharmaceuticals. We are presently mainly working on the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans and bacterial sialic acid uptake mechanisms.
